Online shopping for local books and maps.
Note to Book Publishers
We sell a wide range of books to local people, and to others from Britain and around the world.
We are specialists in selling local books for North Lancashire, Cumbria and the Yorkshire Dales.
There is a widespread belief that we will “find out” about every important local book. This is not correct. Tens of thousands of books are published in English each month.
If you would like us to sell your book, please contact us before publication - carnforthnew@aol.com.

We contribute a page to a local newsletter which details some of the new titles of particular interest to our customers. A suggestion was made that we make this available on our website, and we think that's a very good idea, so here we go. (This will change about every 8 weeks).
Beatrix Potter: her lakeland years W R Mitchell £15
Bill Mitchell brings to bear his deep knowledge of the region to focus on Beatrix Potter's life in the Lake District. The book is well-organised to show all the different strands of her Lake District life: as a farmer (and Herdwick sheep expert); her extensive work for the National Trust; her marriage to the Hawkshead solicitor William Heelis; and of course her books.
Beatrix lived most of her adult life in the Lake District, but the important childhood holidays there with her family are covered too. The text is well supported by a mixture of current and archive photographs.
English Churches Explained Trevor Yorke £6
This is a new book from the very useful Britain's Living History series. Colour photos and descriptions enable the reader to link features of real churches to their place and reason in history.
Lakeland Book of the Year 2010
The winner was Walking on Bridges by Robin Bray (£20). In the words of Eric Robson, “It sets the fine ancient bridges of Lakeland in their historical and economic context in a series of spectacular walks in which the bridges are the stars.”
Runner-up was Cumbria's Weather:Your Complete Guide by Peter Johnson (£6). This small book goes a long way to describing Cumbria's special climate and linking it to the landscape features.
If this sounds too much for you, there is a new book out called Weather Forecasting Made Simple by Stan Yorke (also £6). This delves more into the reasons behind British weather
Wild Card Discovery Walks Joan Bryden £5
The latest addition to this locally produced range is Lancaster/Morecambe (Glasson Dock, Heysham, Lancaster, Morecambe, Overton). Every set has 5 cards, each describing a separate walk.
